Gov. Makinde To Effects Immediate  Employment Of 5000 Youths Across All Agencies

 

 

The Executive Governor of Oyo state, Engr Seyi Makinde, today hosted security chiefs, traditional rulers, religious leaders and other critical stakeholders to a meeting in a bid to cart a new course for the post EndSARS agitation in the state.

The Governor while responding to various commendations by the stakeholders noted that there was nothing extra ordinary in the manner he responded to the EndSARS agitation by the angry youths stressing that it was part of the demands of his Mandate as the governor to ensure security of lives and properties of all resident in the state.


Governor Makinde explained that the agitation by the youths was legitimate and his administration will make a deliberate and concerted efforts geared towards productively engaging the youths to bring an end to youthful unemployment in the state.

The governor stated that as a deliberate measure by his administration to ameliorate pains of the victims during the protest, his government has earmarked a total sum of N500 million (500 000 000) compensation funds for families of EndSARS protest victims.


Governor Makinde also stated that he has directed employment of 5000 persons across all government agencies in order to put an end to youthful idleness.

He added that another N500 million Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) funds for youths with entrepreneurial skills in the state has been set aside to to provide financial supports to all youths with business initiatives and entrepreneurial skills.



Speaking earlier, Speaker, Oyo state House of Assembly, Rt Hon Adebo Ogundoyin in his address, explained that the protest by the angry youths was a demonstration Nigerians oneness against bad governance.

Ogundoyin said that he and his colleagues at the state house of assembly will provided needed legislative support to Governor Seyi Makinde led government in a bid to improve and strengthen security in the state.

The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, the Olubadan Of Ibadanland, Oba Soliu Adetunji, (Aje Ogunguniso I) Soun of Ogbomoso, (Ajagungbade III) Oba Jimoh Oyewumi Oladunni, Aseyin of Iseyinland, Oba Salau Abduganiy Adekunle (Oloogunebi) earlier in their separate addresses commended governor Makinde for providing the needed leadership expected of a governor during the protest.


The monarchs also lauded the governor for fully identifying with the youths which culminated into the quick positive results achieved adding that if not for the timely intervention of the governor and his leadership, the situation would have been worse.

The traditional rulers however, urged government to always provide security for legitimate protesters anytime youths make to express legitimate grievances through peaceful protests.

The Oyo state chapter of Christian Association of Nigerian (CAN) represented by its state chairman, Apostle Joshua Akinyemiju, the Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland, Edo and Delta, Alhaji Daud Makanjuola Akinola, as leaders of both Christian and Muslim communities lauded the governor for his leadership style and urged other government agencies to fully align with state government policies.



They expressed their readiness towards supporting the government to achieve its mandate adding that all residents in the state regardless of ethnicity or religion must work harmoniously in order to achieve the desired peace.

The security chiefs which include DIG of Nigerian Police, Leye Oyebade, Representative of the Nigerian Army, Brig. Gen. Soji Ogunsugba of 2nd Mechanized Division, and others in their separate addresses all commended governor Makinde for restoring peace to the state.


They however enjoined government to strengthen collaboration with local vigilante groups in order to provide adequate security at the grassroots level.

Governor Makinde however, assured that the COVID-19 pandemic which the state was gradually trying to recover from and the EndSARS agitation has not changed his administration’s open door policy stressing that he remains committed to his all inclusive style of governance.
