Makinde Should Also Gets The Executive Treatments, Leadership Role Of PDP South West, Same As Fayose's Era As Governor - Ismaila Ashipa
By BOWA MEDIA
I am off the birthday euphoria. Thanks for your beautiful wishes. Now I am back to my normal beat.
There is nothing strange in the handling of the South West PDP affairs by the only PDP Governor in the South West zone, His Excellency, Seyi Makinde, that Ayo Fayose, then the only PDP Governor from the zone in 2014, didn't handle even worse.
Governor Fayose became too assertive in every discuss, zonal, national; pdp, APC issues to being rude, oppressive, repressive, vituperative and insultive. Peter the Rock became the poster face of the pdp in the zone. His decisions were the norms and laws. He dominated the pdp in the South West zone in 2015 to the extent that the relative peace enjoyed in Lagos, Oyo and Ogun states were frittered away by these unexecutive acts. But Gov Fayose had his way without challenge.
Why then would Makinde not have his way in the pdp South West of 2020? Why, of all pdp leaders, why should Fayose deny Makinde his executive right which he Fayose once coveted to the fullest?
"As it were in the beginning, so shall it remain....." nay! That is only applicable in a world without an end: not in a terminal democracy. What applied yesterday might not necessarily be acceptable today.
Governor Ayodele Fayose was a pdp governor from onset unlike Makinde. He was well entrenched in pdp politics across States before his 2014 second coming. He knew all the clouts and caucuses within the pdp zonal and national, and maintained and sustained his allies across board. Therefore, Fayose was able to ride roughshod on anyone successfully: Obasanjo, George, Akala to mention just a few. At the end of the show of strength, the pdp lost all the six States of the South West zone including Ekiti in 2018. May history not repeat itself in 2023.
Whereas, Gov Seyi Makinde is a complete stranger in the pdp affairs; just as Obaseki. If not for the partioning of the party by the Maikarfiyahs and Sherrifiyahs imbroglio, if not for the supports by prominent South West and Oyo pdp stakeholders enjoyed by Gov Makinde, he is the least expected in the permutations to becoming the occupant of Agodi House. Would Makinde be able to have driven out Oloye Teslim Kolawole Folarin, a pdp Jagaban, out of the Oyo state pdp in 2017 if not for the supports and trust given him by these eminent pdp rooted stakeholders?
Conclusively, Makinde of 2020 is not of equal capacity with Fayose of 2014 within the pdp top-notch heirrachy as comprised today.
Therefore we should stop abusing the gentlemanly in governor Makinde to goading His Excellency headlong into an avoidable battle. Fighting a just cause or not, no one could fight his Lords succefully in a democracy. We would recall that Sen Ladoja, a well pdp entrenched governor fought same battle with party gladiators and lost. As it stands today, Fayose could only be dislodged tactically and not politically. "Bi eye ba se fo la nso oko e". Before it is too late, Oyo pdp must wise up to ride the looming tide with "Oyomesi" approach.
I have spoken more than enough.
